In November, 2009 ImageMovers had an art show. I submitted a one page adaptation of a Buddhist Koan that I’ve always liked.
The traditional version of this story has a woman who asks to be carried across the river, but I felt I needed to focus of the theme of forgiveness. To have the young monk upset about carrying a woman doesn’t have the same weight without explaining that his sect of Buddhism forbade contact with women. It’s a great tell about not being dogmatic in one’s beliefs, but I wanted to focus on moving forward without carrying a grudge.
